Today, Angel City Football Club (ACFC) announced that the club has signed Australian Women’s National Team defender Alanna Kennedy to a one-year contract through 2025 with a mutual extension option for the 2026 season for an undisclosed transfer fee. Kennedy joins the club from Manchester City of England’s Women’s Super League (WSL) and will occupy one of the ACFC’s international spots.
“I am really excited to join Angel City and return to the NWSL, " stated Kennedy. “I was inspired by the club’s mission and purpose and I am looking forward to arriving in LA and meeting all my teammates. Equally, I am excited to get to work and contribute to the team's success on the field.”
“Alanna is an experienced defender who brings both leadership and a winning mentality to our team, said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons. “Her international experience with Australia, coupled with her ability to play in multiple defensive positions, makes her a versatile addition to our roster. We look forward to seeing her contribute to the culture and success of Angel City.”
Kennedy has spent the past four seasons with Manchester City, earning 40 match appearances, one goal and one assist in 2,901 minutes on the pitch. Prior to joining Manchester City, she spent a season with Tottenham Hotspur.
No stranger to the NWSL, Kennedy originally signed with the Western New York Flash in 2016, appearing in 17 matches and two playoff appearances helping the club win the 2016 NWSL Championship. Before joining Tottenham on a six-month loan ahead of the 2020-21 season and was signed permanently in January 2021, Kennedy spent three seasons with Orlando Pride, earning 60 NWSL match appearances in all competitions, tallying eight goals and two assists.
Originally from Campbelltown, Australia, the versatile defender debuted for the Australian Women’s National Team, also known as the Matlidas, in 2012 and has since earned 131 caps and 11 goals, appearing in matches at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games, while also helping them to a fourth-place finish in Tokyo, as well as the 2019 and 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Kennedy played across the Australian women’s league for Sydney FC, Newcastle Jets, and Western Sydney Wanderers before heading to the NWSL.
