Building Adaptive Nonprofit Leaders in Times of Disruption & Change

Sponsored by Angel City Football Club and Slalom

Workshop Description:

Nonprofit leaders today are navigating constant disruption, such as shifting community needs, funding volatility, policy changes, workforce pressures, and increasing complexity in how work gets done. Traditional leadership approaches aren’t enough when change is continuous and unpredictable.

This interactive workshop introduces Slalom’s SHIFT AQ model, a practical framework for building adaptability in leaders and organizations. Participants will explore how adaptive leaders respond effectively to fast-moving change by strengthening five core dimensions that consistently show up in resilient, high-impact organizations:

  • Sensing – Scanning for changes, connecting patterns, and anticipating future needs through proactive learning
  • Humility – Encouraging curiosity, acknowledging fallibility, and remaining open to new perspectives and learning
  • Intentionality – Setting focused goals, prioritizing key adaptations, and maintaining discipline amidst change
  • Fluidity – Adapting strategies creatively, thinking contextually, and pivoting while staying aligned to core purpose
  • Tenacity – Resiliently driving change, being willing to be uncomfortable, and persevering with optimism

Participants will leave with a shared language for adaptability, a clearer understanding of how they currently respond to disruption, and concrete insights they can apply immediately in their leadership roles.

Who should attend:

  • Executive directors, senior nonprofit leaders, and people managers
  • Program, operations, and strategy leaders
  • Development, community engagement, and organizational effectiveness leaders
  • Anyone responsible for guiding teams or organizations through ongoing change and uncertainty

This workshop is ideal for nonprofit leaders who want to move beyond reactive responses and build the adaptive capacity needed to lead confidently through whatever comes next.
