Defender Sarah Gorden was acquired by Angel City FC through a trade with the Chicago Red Stars on December 2, 2021. Gordon was drafted by Chicago in 2016 with the second pick of the third round and played there from 2016–2021, appearing in 78 matches. During her last season with the Red Stars, she appeared in 27 games, including the NWSL Championship, and became Chicago's first Iron Woman, playing every minute of the 2021 season.

Gorden was a dual-sport athlete in soccer and track and field at DePaul University, and was a three-time member of the Big East Conference All-Academic Team. In her senior year, she earned All-Big East First Team honors after playing all 20 matches.
