Angel City is at home Sunday night, September 25, at 5:00 p.m. to take on Racing Louisville FC. The match will be broadcast locally on Bally Sports SoCal and stream live on Paramount+. An English-language radio broadcast will air on iHeart.
ACFC's last result was a 2–1 win at home against Washington. Forwards Claire Emslie and Simone Charley scored in that match, assisted by defenders Ali Riley and Jasmyne Spencer, respectively. Forward Ashley Hatch scored the goal for the Spirit, a penalty kick.
The win brought Angel City's record to 8–7–5 and kept their playoff run alive heading into the final two games of the season. With 29 points, the team remains in seventh place, one point below Chicago in sixth place. North Carolina, which has 28 points, is also fighting for the sixth playoff slot.
Louisville, meanwhile, is in 11th place with a 3–9–8 record and 17 points. Their midweek loss in Portland, together with Angel City and North Carolina winning their Wednesday games, eliminated them mathematically from the playoffs.
That Portland game was a 0–3 loss to the Thorns at Providence Park. Forward Sophia Smith and midfielders Sam Coffey and Olivia Moultrie were the goalscorers.
Angel City last played Racing on the road on June 11, a 3–2 win for LA. Forward Christen Press, who is now on the season-ending injury list, equalized in the 36th minute, in response to a goal by Gemma Bonner; midfielder Savannah McCaskill then put ACFC in the lead early in the first half, but Louisville's Nadia Nadim equalized again in the 65th minute. A penalty goal by McCaskill in stoppage time was the game winner. The match also saw seven yellow cards awarded, three for the visitors and four for the home team.
McCaskill came to LA from Louisville, where she was a key player in their inaugural 2021 season.
Playoff Scenarios
If Angel City wins their next two matches, they will make the playoffs regardless of other results.
With a Chicago loss on Sunday, Angel City can make the playoffs with a win and a draw over the next two games, IF North Carolina loses or draws either of their last two games.
