Angel City take on Portland Thorns FC tomorrow, July 1, at 7:30 p.m. at Banc of California Stadium. The match will stream live on Paramount+ and will be broadcast locally on Bally Sports SoCal. An English radio broadcast will air on iHeart, with a Spanish-language broadcast on KWKW 1330 AM.
The NWSL was on pause last week for the FIFA window, which saw four Angel City players called in to their respective national teams. The week prior, ACFC fell 0–1 to OL Reign on the road. The only goal of the night in the fast-paced, physical match came in the 31st minute: midfielder Angelina sent the ball into the mixer, where Angel City defender Ali Riley kicked an attempted clearance into Reign forward Bethany Balcer, who hammered a shot to the far post.
The game also saw some impressive saves by ACFC keeper DiDi Haračić, including one in the 83rd minute where she dove backwards to deflect a shot/cross from forward Tziarra King.
Angel City are currently 4–4–1 on the season and sitting in sixth place in the standings.
The Thorns, meanwhile, are in second place with a 4–1–4 record—though they are just two points behind first-place San Diego Wave FC with a game in hand. Their most recent result was a 6–0 win against the Orlando Pride, the team's biggest win since 2014 and just the third game in league history won by that margin. Midfielder Hina Sugita, defender Becky Sauerbrunn, defender Natalia Kuikka, and defender Taylor Porter each had one goal, and forward Sophia Smith notched a brace.
When Portland last faced Angel City, at Providence Park on June 3, the Thorns won 3–0, following a goal by defender Kelli Hubly and a brace by Sinclair. ACFC and Portland split the results of their two preseason matches, with the Thorns winning the first one 3–0 and LA recording their first-ever win in the second.
Due to the international break, Angel City will have some absences—including defenders Vanessa Gilles and Allyson Swaby, who remain in camp with Canada and Jamaica, respectively, in preparation for the upcoming CONCACAF Championship.
The match represents a major milestone for ACFC midfielder Dani Weatherholt—her 100th career NWSL game.
