Today, Angel City Football Club (ACFC) announced that it has named Becki Tweed as its head coach.

Tweed began the 2023 NWSL campaign as assistant coach before being named interim head coach on June 14, exactly midway through the season. She led the club to a 8–2–5 record in all competitions (NWSL Regular Season, UKG Challenge Cup, and NWSL Playoffs), including an 11-game unbeaten streak and the first playoff appearance in club history.

'I'm really proud to be staying with Angel City,” said Tweed. “I am most excited to have the opportunity to pick up where we left off. We aren't starting over. We are continuing to build and have unfinished business. We have created a strong foundation, and now our expectations are higher. Serving as the Head Coach of Angel City is a one-of-a-kind opportunity because of what the club stands for and what it brings to women's sports globally. The on-field product is as important to us as what we are building off the field, and as a squad we are committed to results moving forward.”

“From the day she assumed the role of Interim Head Coach, Becki never looked back. She proved that she could not only lead this team, but gain the trust and buy-in of all the players in a short period of time,” said ACFC General Manager Angela Hucles Mangano. “Following a thorough five-month search process, Becki emerged as the absolute right choice not only due to her record, which exceeded expectations by anyone's measure, but also her ability to instill the belief in the players that they could turn the season around and make playoffs. We are thrilled to drop that interim tag off her title, and officially call her Head Coach. We look forward to seeing all she can bring to the club next year and beyond.”

Over her tenure, which was exactly half the regular season, ACFC had the best record in the league, only losing once in both the NWSL regular season and UKG Challenge Cup. In the regular season, she earned 22 points; no other team earned more than 17 points between weeks 12 and 22.

Before joining ACFC, Tweed spent three seasons with NJ/NY Gotham FC, where she helped lead the club to a 2021 playoff appearance, as well as the 2021 Challenge Cup Final. She was also co-head coach of the Gotham FC Reserves team that won the 2021 WPSL Championship. The team included five players now on NWSL rosters. For her efforts, Tweed was honored as WPSL Coach of the Year.

In 2022, Tweed served as an assistant coach for the United States in the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup in Costa Rica and when the U.S. team won the championship of the Sud Ladies Cup in France. Before working with Gotham FC and the U.S. Women’s U20 team, Tweed served as assistant coach for Monmouth University’s women’s soccer program, helping guide the team to a CAA Conference Championship.

Prior to coaching, Tweed played professionally for six years in the English Premier League for Bristol City and Millwall Lionesses, and also represented England in international competition at the youth level.
