Today, Angel City Football Club (ACFC) announced that the team has moved defender Sophia Mattice to the active roster on a short term contract ahead of the club’s match against NorCal rival Bay FC on Saturday, May 17. Mattice has been training with the club since the 2025 Coachella Valley Invitational preseason tournament in February.
Mattice comes from the University of Kentucky, where she competed in 18 matches as a grad-senior, scoring two goals and one assist for the Wildcats. She landed on the 2024 SEC Preseason Watchlist, which fueled her to a career-high 28 shots and 12 shots on goal.
Originally from Folsom, California, Mattice attended the University of Portland prior to her lone season with the Kentucky Wildcats, where she competed as a midfielder. In 2020, she was named to the All-WCC Freshman Team, earning one goal and one assist in nine matches. In her junior season, Mattice led the Pilots in assists with three, earning 2022 All-WCC Honorable Mention honors.
