Today, Angel City Football Club (ACFC) announced the official signing of midfielder Stefany Ferrer Van Ginkel to a one-year contract with an option to extend, further enhancing ACFC’s commitment to championing international playing experience. Ferrer Van Ginkel joins ACFC in exchange for an agreed-upon transfer fee with the Tigres UANL Femenil in Monterrey, Mexico where she helped lead the club to the Apertura Playoff final. Tigres UANL Femenil, is a member of Liga MX, the top tier of women’s football in Mexico. 

“I am really excited to be part of a club that has a vision beyond having success in football, but is also trying to make an impact on the community,” said Ferrer Van Ginkel. “Personally I would like to be an inspiration for young girls wanting to pursue their career in sports, and that’s why Angel City is the perfect club for me to join.”

“Stefany is a player I have previously worked with and her talent, creativity and technical ability immediately stood out,” said ACFC Sporting Director Eniola Aluko. “She can play across all positions on the forward line and has a great opportunity to continue to develop and advance at Angel City. Her journey and inspiring hunger for life and soccer makes Stefany a player I know our community in Los Angeles will connect with.”

Ferrer Van Ginkel played collegiate soccer for the University of West Virginia (WVU), where she tied for the team lead in goals, led the squad in shots (30), and tied for the team lead in shots on goal (17) during the 2020-2021 season. She started all 14 matches for WVU in her senior season, notching a team-leading six goals complemented by a trio of assists. 

After graduating from WVU, Ferrer Van Ginkel appeared on the reality television show, Ultimate Goal. Shortly after, she was offered a contract from the Tigres UANL Femenil and became the first foreign player to sign for the club. 

Born in Brazil, Ferrer Van Ginkel grew up in Barcelona, Spain and started playing soccer in order to communicate and make friends before she picked up the native language. From the age of 12, she played on boys’ teams and was ultimately called up to play for the current women's European champions, FC Barcelona at 16-years-old. 

Ferrer Van Ginkel will make her NWSL debut with the forthcoming Angel City roster under Head Coach Freya Coombe in Spring 2022 in Los Angeles at The Banc of California Stadium.
