Last Time Out: Angel City Completes Comeback in Denver
Angel City rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat Denver Summit FC, 3-2, on the road. The victory moved ACFC into fifth place in the NWSL standings with two matches remaining.
After conceding twice in the opening 18 minutes, Angel City responded with three goals in a 12 minute span to take the lead before halftime. Sveindís Jónsdóttir sparked the comeback in the 32nd minute, finishing a pass from Evelyn Shores to cut Denver's advantage to one. The goal marked Jónsdóttir’s ninth of the season, tying for most goals in a single-season, while Shores’ eighth assist established a new single-season club record.
Angel City leveled the match in the 39th minute when Gisele Thompson set Taylor Suarez up to strike into the bottom-left corner. Four minutes later, Ally Sentnor secured the game-winning goal for Angel City to take home a 3-2 victory. Thompson recorded her second assist of the match, and Sentnor’s goal marked her sixth of the season with ACFC.
“We managed the game very well,” Interim Head Coach Leif Smerud said. “We played another really mature away game against a team that is good at home. We could have started better, but I was proud of the team.”
Next Up: Return to BMO Stadium
After a month on the road, Angel City returns home on Saturday to host NorCal rivals Bay FC for their final regular season home match at BMO Stadium, with playoff positioning on the line.
The two sides last met on March 21, when Angel City earned a 3-1 road victory.
Angel City enters the rematch in strong form, riding an eight-match unbeaten streak. The club has scored 48 goals this season, ranking among the league's most productive attacks. Jónsdóttir and Maiara Niehues have each scored nine goals to lead the team, while Sentnor has added a spark since joining the club midseason, converting three back-to-back penalty kicks in September. Angel City’s recent win over Denver showcased the depth of their attacking options.
Bay FC arrives in Los Angeles looking to capitalize on their recent 2-2 draw against Portland Thorns FC. Karlie Lema assisted both of Bay FC’s goals, one of which came from former Angel City forward Kennedy Fuller, and has been one of Bay’s top attacking threats this season, leading the club with eight goals.
In the Spotlight: Sveindís Jónsdóttir
At the center of Angel City’s attack is Jónsdóttir, whose combination of speed, strength, and finishing ability has made her one of the team’s most impactful offensive threats this season.
Before joining Angel City in May 2025, Jónsdóttir spent four seasons with VfL Wolfsburg. She has continued to represent Iceland on the international stage, competing at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 and most recently joining the Iceland women's national team during the October FIFA international window.
“I don't think there are many players that work harder for a team than Sveindís,” Smerud said. “The key to this game was to leave everything out there and show heart. I cannot point to one player who didn't do that. Everyone looks to Sveindís as the striker, because she's in front of everyone. Her work ethic sets the tone, and we can't overstate its impact. She's really valuable for the team.”
