Today, Angel City Football Club (FC) announced the official signing of 2022 NWSL Expansion draftees midfielder Dani Weatherholt and forward Jasmyne Spencer to the team’s inaugural roster for the 2022 season. 

Weatherholt, who was selected as ACFC’s first pick in the 2022 NWSL Expansion Draft and joins the team on a two-year contract, appeared in 20 matches with one assist during the 2021 season with OL Reign. Before her time with the Reign, she played four seasons with Orlando Pride. Weatherholt played collegiate soccer at Santa Clara University, where she totaled 85 games and 10 goals. She is a Southern California native from San Clemente, Calif.

“I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to represent this amazing club and for all the work they're doing in the community, how they're investing in the women's game, and the incredible ownership. There are no words. I'm so excited and excited to be coming home. I cannot wait to get started,” said Weatherholt.

Spencer was selected in the third round of the 2022 NWSL Expansion Draft. She joins ACFC from the Houston Dash, where she appeared in 18 matches and scored one goal in the 2021 season. Spencer played collegiate soccer at the University of Maryland, where she made the 2009 and 2010 All-ACC First Teams. Spencer signed a one-year contract with the option for the 2023 season.

“From top to bottom, this club is creating something special,” said Spencer. “I am definitely excited to compete for a championship, really dig into the community work, and just build on Angel City has already started.”

Weatherholt and Spencer will debut with the forthcoming Angel City roster under Head Coach Freya Coombe in Spring 2022 in Los Angeles at The Banc of California Stadium. They were both acquired via the expansion draft with San Diego Wave FC on Thursday, December 16, 2021.
