Last Time Out: Angel City Extends Unbeaten Streak to Nine
Angel City secured a 2-0 victory over Bay FC on Saturday at BMO Stadium, adding three points at home to their NWSL playoff berth. Gisele Thompson and Riley Tiernan scored in the second half, while goalkeeper Angelina Anderson recorded her 10th clean sheet of the season.
After a scoreless first half, Thompson broke through in the 49th minute, finishing a pass from Maiara Niehues with a shot into the top-right corner. The goal marked Thompson’s fifth of the season and came on the heels of her NWSL Player of the Week recognition. Angel City added a goal in the 83rd minute when Nealy Martin set up Tiernan for her second goal of the season, with both players making their presence known right off the bench.
The victory marked Angel City’s first-ever 50-goal season and a new single-season record of six home wins.
Next Up: Closing Out the Regular Season
With nine consecutive matches unbeaten and playoff momentum building, ACFC closes out the regular season against Boston Legacy FC on Sunday, Nov. 1, at Dignity Health Sports Park.
Boston Legacy FC enters the finale following a 2-2 draw against San Diego Wave FC on Oct. 25. Boston’s attack has been led by Aïssata Traoré and Amanda Gutierres, who have each scored 10 goals this season. Boston has scored 40 goals this season, but has also conceded 49, giving Angel City an opportunity to test their back line with an attack that has produced 50 goals and found contributions from across the roster.
Angel City currently sits fifth in the NWSL standings and will look to maintain the drive that has fueled their unbeaten run. The club’s attacking depth has been the difference-maker, with players like Sveindís Jónsdóttir and Ally Sentnor proving threats in the final third, and emerging contributors like Taylor Suarez and Riley Tiernan stepping up with timely goals.
At the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Angelina Anderson continues to anchor Angel City’s defense. Her 10 clean sheets this season mark a personal best and new club single-season record, tying her for second in the league.
Angel City will also celebrate goalkeeper Hannah Seabert as she retires from professional soccer. One of three members of the club’s “Goalkeepers’ Union,” Seabert has brought experience, leadership and support to the group, contributing to an environment that helps her fellow goalkeepers thrive. The club will honor her career and the impact she has made as a teammate with a retirement ceremony following the team’s match against Boston Legacy FC.
In the Spotlight: Gisele Thompson
At just 20 years old, Los Angeles native Gisele Thompson continues to make her mark in the NWSL. The Angel City FC defender is a versatile presence on the pitch, contributing across the back line, midfield, and attack. Thompson earned Player of the Match honors against Bay FC after contributing to three of Angel City’s last five goals.
Thompson’s rise is also felt on the international stage, as she earned a place in the U.S. Women’s National Team training camp roster during the October FIFA window.
“I am very impressed by Gisele,” Interim Head Coach Leif Smeurd said. “She’s been fantastic for us. She can play every game, every minute. She has both physicality and technicality to be such a young player at a very high level. She’s a machine as well. She does her job and more.”
With the 2026 NWSL playoffs ahead, Thompson’s continued growth gives Angel City another dynamic option as the club looks to build on their late-season surge.
This Week: Celebración de Culturas
Angel City will cap off the regular season with Celebración de Culturas at Dignity Health Sports Park, celebrating culture and community ahead of the final match.
Festivities begin with Celebración de Culturas Fest at 12:30 p.m. PT, with more activities throughout the day, including art installations, face painting, themed food, and more. Fans can also enjoy a special pregame performance by Bomba Borikén Dance Group, followed by the national anthem performed by Angelica Torres.
