HARRISON, N.J. (Oct. 4, 2026) - Angel City Football Club (ACFC) extended its unbeaten run to seven matches Sunday, battling back from a second-half deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against first-place Gotham FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Forward Taylor Suarez delivered the equalizer in the 91st minute, continuing her recent impact off the bench and earning Angel City one point on the road against the reigning NWSL champions.
The result capped off a hard-fought performance from Angel City, which held Gotham without a shot on target in the opening 45 minutes.

“It was a nitty gritty game where we had to really fight for every ball,” said Interim Head Coach Leif Smeurd. “We didn't manage to play as much as we had hoped, partly because of the conditions and partly because we played a really good team. The organization and the character of our team was what got us to point today. We have a really good spirit in the group and people were giving everything they had.”

Playing through rainy conditions, Angel City created several opportunities in the opening half while limiting Gotham’s chances. Goalkeeper Angelina Anderson made an early save in the fourth minute, denying Sam Kerr’s close-range header, before stopping a shot from Jaedyn Shaw in the 15th minute.

The teams entered halftime scoreless, with Angel City’s defensive organization keeping Gotham’s attack off the scoresheet.

Gotham took a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute when Midge Purce played the ball to Rose Lavell, who found Jaedyn Shaw in the center of the box. Shaw found the back of the net for her 10th goal of the season.

Angel City searched for an answer with attempts from Savy King in the 69th minute, while Ally Sentnor forced a save from Gotham goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger in the 72nd.

Suarez entered for Sentnor in the 83rd minute, and once again made an impact late in the match.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Emily Sams assisted Suarez near the front post, and the rookie fired the ball to the back of the net to level the match 1-1.

“I saw Emily making a run in behind, and I knew if she found herself with the ball in that spot, I just needed to cut across the goal and make a front post run,” Suarez said. “She found a beautiful ball by my feet, and I just tapped it in at that point. Credit to her, obviously, she's a center back, so she doesn't find herself up there a lot, but I was just grateful in that moment.”

The goal was Suarez’s third off the bench in her last four appearances.

“Several players are developing and [Taylor] is really doing that,” Smerud said. “To have players in a squad where people work for each other and know we can leave everything on the pitch, and then we can make a sub to bring on fresh legs that can score goals — she’s been amazing the last games.”

Angel City has now scored in each of their last seven matches. With the draw,  ACFC earns one point and sits seventh in the NWSL standings, carrying a seven-match unbeaten streak into the international break.

Angel City will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17, against Denver Summit FC at Centennial Stadium at 5:45 p.m. PT. The match will be televised on ION.
