Katie Johnson signed with Angel City on January 25, 2023, having come to the club from San Diego Wave FC.

Johnson entered the NWSL in 2017, when she was selected 16th overall in the NWSL Draft by the Seattle Reign (now called OL Reign). She was then traded to Sky Blue FC (now NJ/NY Gotham FC), where she spent the 2018 season. The Red Stars traded for her in 2019, and Johnson would spend the next three years in Chicago, before landing with the Wave in 2022.

Johnson played her college soccer at USC. In 2016, she scored the only goal in the NCAA tournament semifinal, and two goals in the final, en route to the Trojans winning their second national championship.

Born to an American father and a Mexican mother, Johnson has played internationally for Mexico, scoring eight goals in 23 appearances, starting in 2015.

A native of Monrovia, California, Johnson attended Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, where she was a high school All-American.
