The Friday Five x DoorDash: 5 Ways to Celebrate Pride Month in L.A.

The Friday Five x DoorDash: 5 Ways to Celebrate Pride Month in L.A.

This year marks the 51st celebration of Pride — a time where many come together to celebrate the progress made toward equality by the LGBTQ+ community, advocates, and allies around the world. Though Los Angeles won’t see any large celebrations this year, there’s still a vibrant mix of virtual and in-person events happening around the city that are ready to welcome us all. Movies, picnics, and volunteer events — we’ve rounded up five ways for you to get involved and celebrate Pride in Los Angeles this month!

Angel City’s Friday Five series is presented by DoorDash.

Beach, Please! Big Beach Cleanup

To kick-off this year’s Pride month, Heal the Bay and Venice Pride are teaming up for a beach cleanup on Saturday, June 5th! In line with this year’s “Thrive with Pride” theme, Venice Pride is encouraging everyone to get their family and friends involved. To make things fun (and just a little bit competitive), prizes will be awarded for most trash collected, best pride outfit, and more! If you’re interested in participating, you can get all of the details here. Volunteers will meet at the Venice Pride Flag Lifeguard Tower on Saturday at 8:30 AM.

Cinespia & LA Pride LGBTQ+ Movie Night

For the first time, LA Pride has partnered with Cinespia for their LGBTQ+ Pride Movie Night at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The event is set to take place on Saturday, June 26th, with film title, event details, and ticketing information coming soon. “It was always our intention to offer our community opportunities to safely celebrate Pride together” said Sharon-Franklin Brown, board president of the Christopher Street West Association, the nonprofit that produces the annual LA Pride celebration. “It’s been two years since we all came together to celebrate in person. We know our community wants to be together and we want to do everything we can to create these moments.”

Los Angeles LGBT Center Pride Picnic

Meet, greet, and eat with Angel City! On Sunday, June 27th, we’ll be joining the Los Angeles LGBT Center for their inaugural socially distanced picnic. Guests are invited to come enjoy the outdoors in specially-marked picnic spaces — maximum of six people per space — across Hollywood Forever’s Fairbanks Lawn. In addition to some of Los Angeles’ most popular food vendors, the picnic will feature live music from DJ Asha and drag performances from Amber Crane, Greasy Bouffanti, and Lauren Banall. Tickets for the event can be purchased here with all proceeds benefiting the center’s vital programs and services.

Pride Makes a Difference

In collaboration with Big Sunday, LA Pride has created a special 30-day campaign to provide support to those that need it most. Throughout the month of June, LA Pride is encouraging us all to give back by volunteering or donating to organizations that actively work with the LGBTQ+ community. Each week, LA Pride’s calendar of events will highlight a new theme including health & wellness, food insecurity, housing insecurity, and protecting our environment. In partnership with Cedar Sinai, June 1-5 is all about supporting local organizations that prioritize the health of our community. If you’re interested in volunteering, there is absolutely no shortage of events to choose from — some days feature up to 16 volunteer events to choose from! Santa Monica Pride Art Walk

SaMo Pride is BACK this June for a month-long celebration and Art Walk that celebrates the city’s inclusive and diverse spirit. Spanning Third Street Promenade, through Santa Monica Place, and leading through the Santa Monica Pier, Angelenos can appreciate 13 one-of-a-kind art installations by LGBTQIA+ artists. The artwork is presented in partnership with Allies in Arts — a local non-profit whose mission is to support womxn, BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ artists who are often underrepresented in creative industries.
