Angel City FC (ACFC) returns to Banc of California Stadium for NWSL action on Sunday, August 14, at 5:00 p.m. against the Chicago Red Stars. The match will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network, and English-language radio broadcast will air on iHeart.
ACFC is coming off a two-game appearance in just three days after traveling to Orlando to face the Orlando Pride in a week 14 NWSL match last Sunday, which ended in a 2-2 draw, then returning home to earn their first-ever international friendly victory after hosting Tigres UANL Femenil on Wednesday at Banc of California Stadium.
While in Orlando, defender Ali Riley scored her second career goal after nailing a left-footed strike in the 40th minute, followed by Cari Roccaro’s second career goal in the 72nd minute from a Jun Endo corner kick. However, Orlando was able to equalize the game twice, the second goal being in the first minute of stoppage time to seal a draw.
With the impressive production from Riley and Roccaro, who both scored twice within the past three matches, as well as star play from Savannah McCaskill who leads the club in goals scored with four, the stakes are high to continue strong momentum in the back half of the season.
The result brought ACFC to 5–5–3 for the season, as the club remains on the border of playoff position in seventh place.
Chicago Red Stars’ most recent match was a 2-0 home victory against NJ/NY Gotham FC. A goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time in the first half by Chicago defender Tatummn Milazzo, followed by a strike from Chicago forward Ava Cook in the 66th minute was enough to defeat Gotham FC in week 14.
The Red Stars are currently in fourth place with a record of 6-3-5, earning 23 points. The club has only lost two of their last six matches, and currently sits third in the league for goals scored with 22.
This match will serve as the first meeting in NWSL history between ACFC and the Red Stars. It will be exciting to see the club return to the pitch at Banc of California Stadium.
