Angel City confirmed today that First Assistant Coach Melissa Phillips has accepted a position as the head coach for Brighton & Hove Albion FC in the Women’s Super League. Phillips will return to coach in England after a stint with ACFC for preseason and the kickoff of the club’s second season.
“Angel City is an incredible organization and I’m truly disappointed my time there didn’t last longer,” said Phillips. “I’d like to express my sincere thanks to Julie [Uhrman], Angela [Hucles], Freya [Coombe] and all the staff and players for such world-class experience. The opportunity to be a head coach at Brighton in the WSL was something I couldn’t turn down. I wish the club all the best moving forward and will always be a huge fan.”
“We have greatly appreciated the support Melissa has given to our players and coaching staff during her time with Angel City. We wish her the best in her new endeavor,” said ACFC Head Coach Freya Coombe.
Phillips previously served as the head coach for the London City Lionesses and was a collegiate assistant coach at both Penn State and University of San Francisco.
