Angel City Football Club confirmed today that forward Simone Charley has been placed on the season-ending injury (SEI) list for the remainder of the 2023 NWSL Season. Charley, who has been with the club since its inaugural season, suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during the club’s match at Orlando Pride on April 2.
“Simone is an integral part of our club on and off the field,” said Angel City FC Head Coach Freya Coombe. “When she steps onto the pitch, she shifts the momentum of the game, and we will miss her immensely. It goes without saying that we fully support her in her recovery and look forward to her return.”
Since joining ACFC in December 2021 ahead of their inaugural season in the NWSL, Charley has appeared in 22 matches for the club while compiling 1,132 minutes on the pitch. In 2022, she scored two goals for the club and appeared in her 50th career NWSL match against Chicago Red Stars on October 2, 2022. Prior to her ACFC debut, Charley recorded a season-high five goals in 19 matches for the Portland Thorns FC in 2021.
