Angel City Football Club (ACFC) will host the Utah Royals at BMO Stadium on Saturday, May 2, at 5:45 p.m. The match will be televised on ION.
Last Time Out: Portland Outlasts ACFC in Stoppage-Time Thriller
Angel City FC generated more chances than Portland Thorns FC but ultimately fell, 2-1, on Sunday, April 26, at BMO Stadium.
Forward Prisca Chilufya scored her first goal of the season in the closing minutes after Portland attacker Sophia Wilson pushed the Thorns’ lead to 2-0 in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time. ACFC (3-2-0) outshot Portland, 19-10, and had more expected goals than the Thorns (1.5 to 0.9).
Forward Taylor Suarez made the first start of her professional career before being replaced in the second half by forward Jun Endo, who saw her first game action of the season under a minutes restriction. Goalkeeper Angelina Anderson kept Portland at bay for the first 75 minutes of the match, registering five saves overall.
Next Up: Cronin and the Utah Royals
Utah Royals FC comes to BMO Stadium fresh off the club’s largest road win in team history, blanking Seattle Reign FC, 3-0, at Lumen Field on Sunday evening. Royals captain and forward Paige Cronin scored in the opening minute as she made her first start of the NWSL season.
The victory propelled Utah (3-2-1) to third in the league standings, although the Royals have played one more match than Angel City. After finishing 11th and 12th in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, respectively, Utah is looking to be more aggressive on offense, with 63 shots taken – fourth-most in the NWSL.
Meanwhile, the Royals will have their hands full against ACFC, which is tied with San Diego Wave FC for the most goals in the league with 11. Angel City also has the NWSL’s fourth-stingiest defense, with just six goals allowed in five matches.
In the Spotlight: Thompson Shines with Two-Way Effort
Gisele Thompson has been stepping up for Angel City on both offense and defense. The 20-year-old backliner has scored two goals for ACFC already and led the team with four chances created against Portland on Sunday afternoon.
Thompson’s success on both sides of the field earned her NWSL Best XI recognition for the month of March. She was called up by the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) during the recent international break and appeared in all three exhibition matches against Japan, starting twice.
This Week at BMO Stadium: Celebrating AANPHI Heritage Night and a City of Immigrants
This Saturday, Angel City will commemorate Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANPHI) Heritage Night. The Shero K-Pop Dance group will perform at halftime, and the first 10,000 fans to enter the gates will be treated to a charm keychain, presented by BMO.
Saturday also marks the return of ACFC’s Immigrant City Football Club campaign. The initiative honors the cultural richness of Los Angeles and sends a clear message: the city belongs to all who call it home, and the game of football belongs to everyone who loves it. The campaign builds on the impact of the original “Immigrant City Football Club” initiative and its beloved T-shirt, which was first distributed at Angel City’s home match on June 14, 2025, to show solidarity with Los Angeles’ immigrant communities facing unsafe conditions and uncertainty across the city.
