LOS ANGELES (August 7, 2026) - Angel City Football Club (ACFC) has signed goalkeeper Meagan McClelland to a short-term contract. McClelland will be available for selection for the club's August 9 road match against Seattle Reign FC.
“I am incredibly excited to be surrounded by some of the top players, staff, and fans in the world,” said McClelland. “I can't wait to give my hardest effort and play whatever role is needed to help the team succeed.”
“We are happy to have Meagan join ACFC as we head into the second half of the NWSL season,” said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons. “Meagan has significant professional and collegiate experience that will be a welcome addition to our roster and sporting environment.”
McClelland joins Angel City after spending the past two seasons with Carolina Ascent FC of the Gainbridge Super League, where she was one of the club's inaugural signings. She started the league's first match on Aug. 17, 2024, helping Carolina Ascent earn a 1-0 victory over DC Power FC, and went on to record six clean sheets through her first 11 appearances. McClelland finished the club's inaugural season with just 17 goals allowed and 18 appearances, earning the Gainbridge Super League inaugural Golden Glove Award after posting the league's best goals-against average.
Prior to joining Carolina Ascent, McClelland began her professional career earning a preseason invitation with the Chicago Stars before signing a national team replacement contract with the club in April 2023. She later signed short-term national team replacement contracts with San Diego Wave FC, followed by Gotham FC, before earning a permanent contract with Gotham in November 2023, when the club won the NWSL Championship.
Prior to beginning her professional career, McClelland was a standout at Rutgers University, where she made 102 appearances with 101 starts while recording 43 solo shutouts. She earned four All-Big Ten selections, was named the 2018 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and helped lead the Scarlet Knights to the 2021 Big Ten regular-season championship and the program's second-ever NCAA College Cup appearance.
McClelland has represented the United States at the U-17, U-19, U-20 and U-23 youth national team levels. She was named to the U.S. roster for the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup before later earning appearances in friendlies with the U-19, U-20 and U-23 Women's Youth National Teams.
